There are no ticket stubs for many gigs at The Duchess, as we simply turned up and paid a few quid on the door. Entry to gigs was fairly cheap, so we could afford to take chances, seeing bands who frequently went on to greater things.

Baggy ‘daze’, as the ‘Madchester’ scene gathered momentum and crossed the Pennines. Was it really raining inside the refectory? With hindsight, probably not. There seems to be absolutely no evidence that this gig ever happened – but I was there.
